Getting to Corfu

By Plane

Most airlines operate flights to Corfu from all important European cities. The major airlines that operate daily flight charters to and from Corfu include Easy Jet from / to England and Air Malta from / to Malta.

There are also frequent daily flights from Athens International Airport to Corfu. The flight takes approximately an hour. You can also catch flights from Thessaloniki.

By Ferry

Ferries to Corfu leave every hour from the mainland city of Igoumenitsa. The ferry ride takes approximately one hour and a half.  Most visitors to Corfu come via Ancona, Bari, Brindisi, Trieste or Venice in Italy.

The trip from Brindisi takes approximately nine hours, while that from Ancona takes about sixteen hours. Corfu is approximately 30 hours from Venice. There are many different ferry operators, the most popular ones being Blue Star Ferries, Superfast Ferries, Anek Lines, Agoudimos Ferries and Minoan Lines. The boats are mostly new and well maintained. After dropping passengers off at Corfu, the boats continue to Patras, which is approximately ten hours away, and then head back to Corfu.

By Bus

Take the bus from Athens to Corfu. You will then have to board the ferry from Igoumenitsa to Corfu. Buses for Corfu leave on a daily basis from the Athens Bus Terminal, located at KTEL, 100 Kifissou Street, Athens.  Athens is approximately 500 km from Igoumenitsa, and the trip takes six to seven hours. The ticket costs EUR 39.50 per person

The distance between Igoumenitsa and Corfu is 18 nautical miles, and it takes the ferries anywhere from 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes to cover this distance. The ticket from Igoumenitsa to Corfu costs per person EUR 8 and per car EUR 35. Daily buses to Corfu are also available from the Thessaloniki Bus Terminal. The bus ride from Thessaloniki to Corfu takes approximately eight hours. The ticket costs EUR 37.70 per person

Getting Around in Corfu

By Bus

The island of Corfu has two well organised bus services. The buses are modern and operate frequently on all routes. The city bus service has blue buses. The bus station is located at San Rocco Square. These buses offer a regular service between the capital and the suburbs. The second bus service KTEL offers transportation to the farther locations of the island, including Lefkimi, Kavos, Sidari, Ermones, Saint Panteleimon, Saint Gordios and Glyfada. KTEL buses are green in colour and start from the central station at Pallada.

By Car

Corfu is a large island with a good road network and renting your own car is the best way to explore the island and all its historical monuments, beaches and picturesque villages. You can hire a car from the port, airport, Corfu Town or from any resort. A wide variety of vehicles are available for hire, including small cars and luxurious jeeps. Simply select the vehicle of your choice and head out to explore the island. Do keep in mind that you should have your driving licence with you at all times.

By Taxi

If you would rather not rent a car, you can always hire a taxi to take you around the island. Taxi stands are located at all the main areas of the island such as San Rokko Square and Theotoki Street. Radio taxis are also available and you can telephone for one at any time. The taxis operate on a fixed-price basis for most popular destinations. Infrequent destinations are charged by the meter.
