A Forgotten Amazing Corfu Activity - The Old Footpaths of Corfu
You may not think of Corfu as a"walker's paradise" but it is. If you turn your attention away form the sometimes crowded beaches and resorts you will discover never ending olive groves, lush greenery and steep mountains in the inner of the island. In isolated traditional villages you will get to know the other Corfu. What if this will be your future favorite Corfu activity?
The island is full of old footpaths that any walker, beginner or more experienced, will love. You'll find these paths if you ask the locals or you could join an organized Corfu walking tour that are now offered by travel agencies and on private initiative. In many parts of Corfu you'll find the footpaths just by following the signs put up by the mayor's office. There are also books that describe the footpaths in detail. And of course the Hikers Society of Corfu is happy to help you with information (phone 26610-39481).
Two very beautiful paths take you up on the Pantokrator mountain, the highest peak of Corfu. The best time of the year to visit
the mountain is in the Spring when the mountain sides are covered in blooming wild flowers or in the Autumn before the rain starts. The Corfu summer is usually too hot and is not recommended for walks on the mountain.
The village of Strinilas is the starting point of a 2 hour footpath that will take you up to the top of the mountain. Here at the top, called Monte San Salvatore by the Venetians, is a monastery built in 1689 by the inhabitants of the surrounding villages. While at the top you will enjoy the amazing views over the mainland over to Albania, the small islands northeast of Corfu, the Diapontia Islands and all the way to Paxos and Kefallonina in the South. On a very clear day one see all the way over to Italy.
An alternative footpath to the top of the mountain starts in the old village of Perithia. This village is the most stunning example of a traditional Corfiot village. Here you'll find Venetian stone mansions and churches with old mural paintings and Petrithia is in itself worth a visit. The path from the village to the top is quite steep but the reward of reaching the top makes it all worth while.

The Magic of Paxos - A Corfu excursion to a true Mediterranean Gem
What brings visitors back, year after year, to this tiny island in the Ionian Sea where there is so little to do? What is the Magic of Paxos?
Could it be endless olive groves full of gnarled and twisted olive trees, the relaxing and unhurried pace, the genuine friendly hospitality, the turquoise refreshing waters or is it just the serene and unspoilt landscape?
Why don't you find out for yourself and book a tour to Paxos with us?
The island of Paxos is situated 14 km south of Corfu and 20 km west of the small town of Parga on mainland Greece. We'll reach the island by boat as there is no airport. The lack of super-fast connections has protected Paxos from mainstream modern tourism and kept the island the perfect escape. Paxos covers an area of about 19 square km and has a permanent population close to 2.300 inhabitants. You may consider Paxos one never-ending olive grove and the olive harvest occupies most of the population in wintertime.
There are three main villages on Paxos and the largest one, Gaios is the capital of Paxos. This tiny "town", is still a very much alive fishing village, with the fishermen's kaikies tied up along the waterfront. The Venetian and British heritage is very obvious in Gaios. If you take the time to enjoy a coffee or a meal in the harbor you will soon find out that Gaios have a fascinating atmosphere of it's own.
A bit further north on the east coast you'll soon reach the unspoilt tiny fishing village of Loggos. Colorful Loggos is very popular among photographers and painters from all over the world and few can resist the cosmopolitan feel of this attractive gem.
Lakka on the north coast of Paxos attracts a variety of yachts during high season. The obvious reason is the small bay forming a perfect natural harbor. Add to that Lakka's narrow streets with small shops, tavernas offering local specialties and you have the ultimate mix for your relaxing vacation.
If Paxos is an olive grove, it's baby sister-island Anti-Paxos is the vineyard, with stunning natural beauty. But the beauty of these small islands doesn't end on land. Few places in the world can compete with the amazing, turquoise, clear waters surrounding Paxos and Anti-Paxos.
All this together form the Magic!
